Picture of "S" and Bitey Headoff

FIRST WORD: "MILK!" (36th WEEK)

"S" can communicate! On Tuesday (Jan 23rd), "S" made her first sign, "milk," during breakfast. She stuck out her tiny arm, made a fist, and open and closed it, very deliberately. On Wednesday, she did it again during breakfast, twice in afternoon, and at night (right before bedtime). Thursday was similar to Wednesday but on Friday, she said, "milk, milk, milk" all day long.

Daddy says he expected her to babble all day long with her first word. When "milk, milk, milk" gets tiresome, we hope she will say it only when she wants it. Now, we're wondering what her next sign/word is.

ITCHY GIRL (35th WEEK)

"S" ezcema has gotten out of control on her right elbow. She's cleverly learned that she can scratch the itch by laying on the carpet and waving that arm up and down, giving it a good scratching. She has also learned to scratch her elbow by leaning up against the strap on her high chair and swing. Unfortunately, the elbow can't heal because she keeps pulling off the scab every day. Finally, she has a prescription of topical steroids for it from the doctor which seems to be doing the job.

Weight from Jan 25th doctor visit: 18 lbs
Height measurement on Jan 27th at home: 25 3/4 in.

NO MORE PACI (34th WEEK)

"S" has weaned herself off the paci, mostly by herself, with some help from momma and daddy.

Early this week... she refused to take the pacifier at all for both nights and daytime sleep. Momma kept trying to offer it to her for a day but "S" just wouldn't take it. Leading up to this week, at night, she had been falling asleep without the pacifier. However, when she would wake up, she would want it. Eventually, she would wake up and didn't want the pacifier anymore, push it away, and cry harder if we kept insisting.

For her naps, sometime she would take it; sometimes she wouldn't. So, momma and daddy knew the pacifier was going away, but we weren't ready for it!! What will she use to soothe herself to sleep?!

Another milestone for the week: No more swing! "S" has been sitting up in the swing and leaning her body over to see what's on the floor. After doing this several times, not to mention breaking the mobile, no more swing for "S!"
